OSS Orchestrator Solution for IMS/SDP

The drive toward convergence and the market need to introduce rich-media and content-based services quickly and efficiently has seen a large number of Communications Service Providers (CSPs) turning to IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and Service Delivery Platforms (SDP) as the platforms of choice for service creation, service orchestration, and IP-based service brokering.

Currently, it takes a CSP many months to bundle and personalize services. Because the service logic resides in siloed and separate applications, a CSP has to integrate and orchestrate separate instances of this logic to create the bundles necessary for personalization and market differentiation. This is a time-consuming and expensive process, and if the product bundle fails, the cost of failure is very high. It can discourage CSPs from taking the risk of introducing cutting-edge, innovative services.

By centralizing the service logic, a CSP can create many combinations of features and services at a significantly lower cost. The centralized logic can also help create and define services much faster.

A multitude of OSS and back office systems stand in the way of this dream becoming a reality. Successful service orchestration and brokering require querying a number of different siloed OSSs such as network inventory, device inventory, provisioning repository, activation controller, and self-service order management to design and fulfill any service or feature request. This interaction and querying of the underlying OSSs can be cumbersome and expensive and requires significant integration.

NetCracker’s OSS Orchestrator Solution for IMS/SDP addresses this critical but often overlooked need. OSS Orchestrator provides a unified, single interface to typical SDP components (such as the Service Broker and Service Creation Environment) in order to provide the OSS data and functionality needed to create, deliver, and manage a service. OSS Orchestrator serves as a single interaction point for all OSS-related data, customer-service-resource relationships, and any additional information, such as location or presence.

The NetCracker Orchestrator Solution brings CSPs the following benefits:

  • Visibility and access into detailed service configuration and the capabilities of underlying resources
  • Visibility and access into Network and IT infrastructure from Layer 1 through 7
  • Ability for an SDP to choose the most cost-effective assets to deliver a selected service
  • Independence from the complexity of other OSSs needed to create and deliver services, making them "IMS/SDP ready" without significant integration and re-engineering costs

The NetCracker Orchestrator Solution allows CSPs to deploy IMS/SDP solutions that work in close cooperation with their existing OSSs, preventing data duplication, improving data accuracy, and reducing maintenance costs for content-rich, convergent IP-based services.

The Orchestrator Solution is based on NetCracker’s software and implementation expertise and includes three components that are critical for achieving service providers' business objectives:

  • Software: proven, highly scalable, best-of-breed software that includes service and resource management for network and IT infrastructure and IMS/SDP enablement
  • Professional Services: an experienced solution delivery team to help with all phases of the OSS transformation project
  • Expertise: NetCracker subject matter experts who have deep expertise in telecommunications, networks, OSSs, NetCracker software, and CSP environments

By offering such a comprehensive solution, NetCracker forges close working relationships with its customers and provides for both the software and service parts of an implementation. This type of partnership and accountability for project success is unique in the OSS industry and gives service providers the opportunity to influence product direction as well as minimize project risk.
