NEC/Netcracker’s Multilayer Transport SDN Solution With Infinera Wins 2018 MEF Award for Multi-Vendor Innovation

MEF Award Underscores Standards-Driven Collaboration Across Multi-Vendor Networks

WALTHAM, MA — November 5, 2018 — Netcracker Technology announced today that its joint end-to-end, multi-layer Transport SDN solution with Infinera received the 2018 MEF Award for Multi-Vendor Innovation. This award was presented to Netcracker at the gala dinner at MEF18 in Los Angeles, CA.

The award recognizes the joint multi-layer Transport SDN solution from NEC/Netcracker and Infinera, which leverages OIF and MEF standards to enable programmable transport networks over a multi-vendor and multi-domain network infrastructure. The solution comprises NEC/Netcracker’s Multilayer Transport SDN Controller, part of its Network Domain Orchestration solution, to manage SDN controllers from Infinera and Coriant using MEF Presto and OIF T-API. The solution also uses NEC/Netcracker’s Service Orchestration to provide a smooth integration of the virtual environment with existing BSS/OSS.

The LSO-based solution supports standardized, orchestrated MEF 3.0 services; automates the activation, monitoring and assurance of multi-domain OTN networks; reduces opex through automated service provisioning processes across complex multi-domain infrastructure; and opens new revenue streams by introducing slice-based services in 5G networks.

“The collaboration between NEC/Netcracker and Infinera is a great example of how vendors need to come together and build comprehensive solutions that can cater to the specific needs of evolving service providers,” said Pascal Menezes, CTO at MEF. “The multi-vendor Transport SDN solution between the two organizations demonstrates important innovation leveraging MEF LSO and OIF standards to enable programmable transport networks over a multivendor network infrastructure.”

“Multi-vendor solutions are becoming more opportunistic for both vendors and service providers, as they open new revenue streams and incorporate a wider range of capabilities to meet diverse demands,” said Ari Banerjee, Vice President of Strategy at Netcracker. “We are excited to accept this MEF award that validates the efforts of the collaboration with Infinera for our end-to-end, multi-layer Transport SDN solution.”

The 2018 MEF Awards program recognizes service, application, technology and professional excellence in the global community committed to delivering innovative solutions that are optimized for the digital economy.
