Staying Tuned for Cable’s Next Step

Cable operators in the US are facing a growing number of competitors, from fiber providers to rival cablecos. In order to push back against revenue declines, these operators must change the way they do business with customers.

Though cable companies (cablecos) were once the gold standard of connectivity in the US broadband market, recent years have seen increasing competition in the high-speed connectivity space. New technological innovations like FTTH, FWA, 5G and LEO satellites have introduced a number of connectivity options for cable operators to contend with. Fiber providers have permeated the market, with the Fiber Broadband Association estimating that fiber lines pass more than half of all US homes, and that total will likely increase in the coming years due to government subsidies designed to bridge the digital gap and provide connectivity to hard to reach areas.

To remain competitive in this landscape, cable operators can employ several growth strategies that will update their businesses and improve customer experience. Most importantly, cablecos must react more quickly to changing market needs and focus on customer satisfaction with fast service issue resolution and easy ways to buy new products and services. By leveraging new technologies such as AI, upgrading legacy HFC infrastructure, developing commercial services and expanding consumer services with mobile, FWA and FMC, cable operators can remain relevant in the market and continue to grow and change with the industry.
